Continental Becomes the Latest to Roll Out in-Flight Wi-Fi
As the latest airline to begin offering free in-flight Wi-Fi, Continental has announced their plans to allow passengers to have limited wireless access. The service will be similar to the Jet Blue service and allow passengers to use e-mail or instant messaging. Sadly web browsing and even downloading attachments will not be allowed.
A bit of good news does come with the Continental announcement, after you get board checking your email you will be able to amuse yourself by watching TV. The LiveTV service will offer 36 channels through DirecTV, first class passengers will be able to view for free while the economy-class passengers will have to pay $6.
In-flight Wi-Fi seems to be nearing a necessity as we have seen recent announcements coming from other airlines such as Southwest and Jet Blue. Lets just hope these limited services take note and begin to offer a full experience similar to Virgin and American Airlines. ***

S&P UPGRADES OPINION ON SHARES OF JETBLUE AIRWAYS TO BUY FROM HOLD JBLU; $5.38
Fourth-quarter loss of 2 cents per share, vs. EPS of 10 cents one year earlier, is worse than our 2-cent EPS estimate. Our upgrade reflects the recent share price decline and our view that Jet Blue could benefit in 2008 from easy comps and capacity cuts by peers. Jet Blue is working on as-yet undefined business relationships with Lufthansa and Aer Lingus that we think could provide additional revenue streams. While oil's recent rise leads us to cut our 2008 EPS estimate to 20 cents from 30 cents, it is still better than the Street's one-cent loss estimate. We are keeping our 12-month target price at $8, an above-peer 40X our 2008 EPS estimate. /J. Corridore ***

Flying the-Unfriendly Sky
Imagine being stuck 10 hours on a plane, on the tarmac. Not going anywhere. No water or food. No working toilets. That's what happened to Jet Blue passengers ... and passengers on Northwest and American, and the list goes on.
No, the sky is definitely not friendly.
Passengers are mad as hell and they're not going to take it any longer. They're lobbying Congress to come up with a Passenger Bill of Rights that insists airlines explain exactly why a flight is delayed, and insists that airlines provide adequate food, water, sanitary facilities and access to medical attention for passengers left stuck on planes.
The Bill of Rights demands airlines return passengers to terminals when delays occur, and under no conditions should a plane sit on the tarmac for longer than three hours. Common sense? We think so. However, the last time passengers tried for a Bill of Rights, the airlines blocked them.
If you buy jug of milk and it's sour, you return it. The supermarket apologies, gives you a fresh carton and you feel valued. But if your seat is broken on a long flight, or if anything else goes wrong with your flight experience, you're unlikely to get a sympathetic hearing or fair compensation. If you protest, you could be cited for "air rage."
The airlines spend millions in lobbying Congress to keep control of any legislation affecting customer relations. But if you've had it and believe a passenger bill of rights is the right thing to do, sign up here.
Maybe this time it'll be different. Maybe the airlines will listen. ***
