Murcia Airport is Operated by the Spanish Airport Authority

By John J. Baker
Accommodating passenger jets the likes of Boeing 757's or 767's, the Spanish air force sits beside the civilian airport, the Murcia airport is operated by the Spanish airport authority at the city of Murica. The airport, located in San Javier, seventeen miles south of Murcia, has expanded during the past ten years to serve the increased tourist traffic.

It has grown from a small operation to a terminal, managing local and international flights. Since the airport has grown, visitors have learned that landing at Murcia offers a more direct route to the southern areas of the Costa Blanca, than does landing at the Alicante airport.

Flights into Murica Airport
A variety of regular, charter groups, and discount airlines, fly into Murcia. Most vacationers visit the southern areas, which is the Costa Blanca. This area includes Torrevieja. Murica gives holidaymakers greater choice in schedules and fares. There are many charter airlines using this airport. Because of the tenfold growth in this airport, a greater number of low cost airlines are landing at Murcia. This growth is seen as continuing into the future. Larger groups traveling together onward to the Costa Blanca will use these services. For further information about airport amenities and ground transportation connections, a travel agent can help you. Here is some general information however.

Transportation from Murica Airport
When you land at the Murica airport, you will need to have arranged your ground transportation. You will need to pre-arrange your rental car. There is also an airport transfer service that may help. If you're in the habit of using private taxis then you'll need to have arranged that in advance. It's best to consider the method of transportation you will use into the city before you depart for Murica.

Are you aware that car rental agencies such as Centuaro, Europa, Eurocar, and Solmar are represented in the main terminal building Murcia airport? If you rent a car, you'll have the best of all worlds. This however, much convenience and flexibility for your transportation, as you holiday through Spain. Before you depart log onto the Internet and compare the rates.

If you're looking at cost, you'll discover that the greatest cost effectiveness is in the use of airport transfer services. These are also the easiest and safest way to travel. If you are going to the city train station transfers are available as well as to larger cities. Again, you'll need to book all o this before you reserve your airline ticket.

If you are in doubt about your Internet findings, there are still travel agents who will be able to finesse this for you. What do you do with a family group? The airport transfer service is probably the best choice since most Spanish taxis will not carry more than four people (that includes children.) on the other hand the transfer service can accommodate requests for groups of up to fifty people. Visiting Murcia City you may want to visit Madrid.

The copywriter John Bakers is very excited about areas associated to murcia airport transfers. You can see his observations on murcia airport departures at many different sources for murcia airport departures knowledge.

The Ease of Airport Hotels

By Adam Singleton
Getting to the airport sounds like an easy task but the trip to the terminal can be fraught with complications and an unexpected flat tyre or traffic jam can result in a missed flight and frustrating rearrangement of travel plans.

Around one in every eight travellers miss flights every year, resulting in considerable stress, inconvenience and expense. Your usual trip to the airport may be hassle free but it only takes a small hurdle to throw your plans into disarray.

Public transport strikes, cars and taxis breaking down or having punctures and sleeping in are some of the more common reasons why people end up missing an all important flight.

If you are unfortunate enough to miss a flight then there are a few things you can do to help the situation. The best thing is to get yourself to the airport anyway and take a trip to the customer service desk of the company you are flying with.

Some airlines operate 'rescue packages' which vary in terms of what they offer but generally speaking, allow you to catch the next available flight for a specified fee. Missing your flight can turn out to be a costly mistake not to mention the inconvenience caused by having to reshuffle your arrangements, particularly if you have other flight connections to meet.

Most good travel-insurance policies cover costs incurred due to missed flights, such as replacement tickets and accommodation, but only if there is good reason for missing the flight. A breakdown or accident en route to the airport or failed public transport usually qualify as acceptable but do check the details of your policy.

Missed flights are an occurrence best avoided altogether and this is a contributing factor in the increasingly popularity of airport hotels. Whether you're going on a business trip or simply jetting off for a well deserved holiday, you will need to get yourself to the airport in a timely fashion in order to catch your flight. This can prove especially troublesome if you need to travel during rush hour or at an unusual time in the middle of the night when you are usually safely tucked up in bed.

Airport hotels are an easy and effective way to take the hassle out of travel as you can stay close to the airport on the night before or after your flight.

Staying in a hotel which lies in close proximity to the airport means you have a short trip ahead of you when making your way to departures. Most airport hotels offer a shuttle service to the terminals and fewer complications are likely to arise if it only takes a few minutes to actually travel to the airport.

A few extra hours sleep is a strong possibility if staying in an airport hotel as you don't need to get up quite so early to travel. Many airport hotels also offer parking and accommodation packages which can work out to be a cost effective option.

Always Book Airport Parking in Advance to Save Money

By Reece Coleman
How to save money on airport parking
Unless you like paying over the odds, you should never ever just turn up at an airport car park, without pre-booking your parking for the period of your travel!

Travelling to destinations around the world is more accessible than ever, thanks to the quick & easy access to cheap flights and accommodation. However, when it comes to the parts of our holiday we carry out in the UK, we consistently pay too much, especially when it comes to airport parking.

Airport car park charges can be up to 60% more than the pre-booked internet prices that are available online & the earlier you book, the more likely you are to get the best prices. These prices are withdrawn as you get closer to the departure date and are subject to availability, but you can still save money, even if you leave it to the departure day to pre-book your parking! Parking prices at UK airports are also cheaper at certain times of the year, so if you can choose when you travel, then selecting off-peak dates could save you up to a THIRD.

Why should I consider pre-booking airport car parking?

* To save money - pre-booked prices can represent great savings over just arriving at an airport car park. You can save up to 60% on the cost of parking your car, as opposed to turning up & paying on the day.
* To save time - no need to queue up to pay your car park charges on your return to the UK. Plus, with Meet & Greet options, you can save even more time by going directly to the terminal and your car is valet parked for you.
* To guarantee your parking space - if you have pre-booked your car parking, the space is guaranteed and at peak times, airport car parks can get very busy.

There are lots of different types of car park available & not all types are available at all airports. Once you've found the cheapest price it doesn't necessarily mean it'll be the best option for you. Here's a quick guide to what your choices usually are:

On-site parking

This is the name given to car parks operated by the British Airports Authority (BAA). It basically means that the car park is on BAA land, but occasionally 'off-site' car parks can actually work out to be closer to the terminal building.

Off-site parking

Simply any car park that isn't part of the airport complex itself. In other words this is the name given to the (invariably cheaper) car parks operated by third-party companies, which lay on regular transport (transfers) to the terminal building. The best of these are just as quick and convenient as on-site, if not more so!

Meet and Greet (sometimes known as Valet parking)

You drive to the terminal and are met by a driver who takes your car keys and then parks your car for you. Then, when you return to the UK, the car will be waiting back at the terminal building again, for you to drive straight off home. Some companies also offer to valet your car, or even service it before returning it to you as well. This is a great service, but will usually be expensive.

Airparks

Airparks offer low cost off-airport parking. Promoting a focus on value and excellent customer service means repeat customers are a strong business for Airparks who spread their reputation largely through word of mouth, offering friendly staff and efficient service. Although the car parks are not within the airport boundary, the transfer times are very good and their competitive rates make them very popular.

Local car parks

Occasionally, small companies with spare land offer their own airport parking services & try to undercut the mainstream competition on price. On the downside, they generally don't offer anything like the same level of security; almost all airport car parks have 24 hour CCTV and guard patrols, whereas local services may be less secure and availability is more limited, so check first and weigh these downsides against the price if considering one.

It's generally advisable to use a recognised supplier of airport parking as they will be only offering secure car parking & you can park your car & relax on your holiday with peace of mind.

Another reason for checking out airport parking prices online is if you are considering taking a taxi to the airport. You could actually save up to half the taxi fare by pre-booking airport parking instead! Or why not consider booking a hotel packaged WITH parking. At certain times of the year, especially August and September, a hotel & parking package can work out to be up to £20 cheaper than parking on its own! If you have an early check-in time, staying overnight in an airport hotel takes all the stress out of getting to the airport on time & leaves you relaxed & ready to fly.

The bottom line is never pay on the day; if you see someone putting money into a parking machine at the airport, then why not do them a favour and suggest they pre-book their airport parking next time they travel to save themselves up to 60% in charges - they'll probably thank you for it!!

Use My Travel Extras to pre-book airport parking at all of the UK's major airports, as well as car parking at Dover & Southampton Ports if sailing is more your scene! Compare airport parking prices & check availability, with secure online booking at 26 UK Airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Cardiff, Newcastle, Bristol and more.

Car Parking at Stansted Airport

By Mark Felix
Car parking at Stansted airport is well thought out, considering that it is the UK's fourth largest airport serving 19 million customers a year, operating 20 airlines covering 114 destinations, and all with just one runway and one terminal. You'd think things would be cramped and possibly hard to find, but the airport offers a wide range of parking options and at prices which are competitive considering the location of this airport.

Stansted airport offers a number of different parking options, from short stay to mid stay and from long stay to meet-and-greet or valet services. The short stay car parking, which requires no advanced booking, is primarily aimed at providing a suitable service for those who are dropping passengers off or picking them up. It is very close to the main terminal and is charged at £2.60 for up to an hour. However, the first 15 minutes are free which is well worth knowing, and if you can drop off or pick your passengers up quickly then parking will not cost you anything.

For stays of a day or more you can choose from either the mid stay or long stay car parks. The mid stay car parks are just 5 minutes from the terminal by shuttle bus and cost £12.50 per 24 hour period. Although there's no need to book in advance, the advantage of doing so will mean that a place is guaranteed for you: there is no guarantee if you just turn up, and as this is a busy airport it's best not to leave your parking arrangements to chance.

The long stay parking is the best option if you're leaving your car at the airport while you go away on holiday and represents the best value for money if you book in advance. The shuttle bus will collect you, running every 8 minutes during peak times, and every 20 minutes off peak.

The long stay car parking at Stansted airport incorporates a great deal of security, including high security fencing, monitored CCTV coverage and regular patrols. In addition, the long stay car parks include parking for Blue Badge holders, and these 130 bays have been built to the best modern standards, offering all of the space and facilities you require. However, in order to be able to take advantage of this option you are highly recommended to book in advance to be sure of getting one of these spaces should you need it.

You may also be interested to note that Stansted airport parking has a number of other facilities in its long stay car parks, which are not often seen at other locations. This includes a number of oversized bays which are suitable for camper vans or for cars with trailers. Again, however, to be certain of being able to obtain one of these, book in advance because they are limited.

If you do not book in advance then not only are you not guaranteed to be able to find the kind of bay you require, but you will also be charged the roll-up rate of £9 per 24 hours, or part thereof, which makes it much more expensive, and you can obtain discounts of up to 60% by booking in advance.

There are two further options to consider besides the short stay, medium stay and long stay car parks and these are the park and sleep, and the meet and greet services.

The park and sleep service is one offered by the local hotels, including the De Salis hotel. Imagine being able to turn up at the hotel, park your car and then enjoy a night's rest before you fly. In the morning, or whenever your flight departs, you catch the free shuttle bus from outside the hotel entrance, and just 5 minutes later you're at the terminal. At the end of your holiday you call a number and your car is brought to you at the terminal within a few minutes. The parking at these hotels is, in many cases, free, and so all you pay is for your one night's accommodation.

Alternatively the meet and greet service, sometimes referred to as a valet or chauffeur service, is one which allows minimal hassle, and is ideal if you have elderly or disabled passengers, children or a lot of heavy or bulky luggage to take. This service completely eliminates any requirement for travelling or using shuttle busses. Just turn up outside the terminal and your chauffeur will meet you, help you unpack your luggage from the vehicle, and will then drive your car away for you, to be parked in a secure facility.

At the end of the holiday, your chauffeur will drive your car back to the terminal for you. At just £49 for 8 days, this is not an expensive option at all, and as far as car parking at Stansted airport is concerned, it's the easiest, simplest and most hassle free option available.

Further information on parking at Stansted Airport is available at http://www.airportessentials.com where you will also find details of other facilities at Stansted and other UK airports.

Shunning the London Airports

By Keith Barrett
It's become increasingly noticeable that more and more people are avoiding using London airports in favour of smaller regional alternatives. It's certainly an interesting trend and one that deserves more investigation.
Why are so many people looking to travel from other locations. As ever, it seems that this is story that is coming about due to a range of factors.

Firstly, many people feel that getting to the London airports is not as convenient as it could be. This is particularly true, fairly obviously, for those who live the greatest distances from the capital. While rail links are reasonable, the thought of driving anywhere near the city is certainly not pleasurable.

There are also increased costs involved in travelling from Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick. These costs show themselves in various ways, ranging from more expensive flights to higher prices for taxi fares and overnight accommodation.

All of these factors have been added to by the fact that a number of budget airlines have started to operate from regional airports. This is creating an interesting effect - it means that many people are now finding that it's cheaper to fly from a local airport, which may also be more convenient.

The trend has continued, with the range of destinations on offer constantly increasing. There are drawbacks, of course. Some regional airports don't have the same facilities that you might expect to find in London.

But many people are finding that they can easily deal with a few less shops, especially when they're saving money on the cost of their holiday.

It seems that many travellers will continue to avoid the major London airports.

Travelling From Your Local Airport

By Keith Barrett
For many of us there is a great sense of excitement when we set off for a holiday. We're looking forward to spending a relaxing time in a different region or country.

But there may also be stress involved in such a journey. Sometimes the stresses of travelling seem unavoidable but is this always the case? I used to dread using UK airports but I've noticed things changing in recent years.

I used to hate the fact that I'd need to get to one of the major London airports. They offered by far the greatest range of destinations and hence were often the only options available.

Unfortunately, flying from Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted rarely seemed to be a pleasure. The journey there would usually take hours and would often be longer than the flight itself.

This was made worse by the fact that you had to allow extra time to take into account the fact that the traffic was likely to be horrible. Was this really the most fun way to start a holiday? It seemed like a necessary evil.

Fortunately, I've found that it no longer is necessary. The rise of regional airports means that many of us live closer to international airports than we once did. In my case, it means that I can quickly fly from Southampton Airport to numerous UK and European destinations.

It's the same story for many other UK residents. Suddenly we have a more convenient option.

There are other advantages too. It's also become clear that flying from Southampton is frequently cheaper than opting to fly from London. When it's more convenient and cheaper too then things can't be bad!

Before you book your next holiday have a think about your local airport. Could you get a great flight deal from there and save yourself the hassle?

Keith Barrett has written about getting saving on Flybe Southampton flights as part of his writing on travel and tourism. This article may be used by any website publisher, though this resource box must always be included in full.

The Success of Southampton Airport

By Keith Barrett
The rise of regional airports has been welcomed by many travellers, with passenger numbers rising steadily. Southampton Airport is one such regional hub that many people may not be too familiar with.
That's all been changing in recent years, as passenger numbers swell. So what's the story behind the success of this airport in Hampshire. We take a closer look.

One look at the list of departures from the airport is enough to tell you that much of the success is about one major airline - Flybe. Flybe are a budget airline that operates from a number of UK regional airports.

They fly internally within the UK and also to a wide range of European cities. Their coverage of flights to France, in particular, is very strong. It seems that their flights are well used, with customers ranging from business people to tourists and those who have homes on the continent.

Why is it that so many people are choosing to fly from Southampton? Cost is certainly an important factor for some. The fact that Flybe appeal to budget travellers has certainly helped. Flight prices are certainly cheap, particularly if you're wise enough to book well in advance.

Cost is by no means the only explanation. It's clear that the airport has looked to make people aware of just how much more convenient it is to use a local airport. Why bother travelling to Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted when there's an airport that's so close by?

The excellent transport links also help in ensuring that this is seen as a convenient point to depart from. Located close to the M3 and M27 motorways, many people choose to drive to catch their flight.

Others like the fact that there is a dedicated mainline railway station - Southampton Airport Parkway. Services from Parkway depart at regular intervals, linking this regional airport with much of Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset.

There's also a direct link in to London's Waterloo station.

When you put all of these factors together, it becomes plain to see why Southampton Airport has been so successful.

Keith Barrett has written about getting saving on Flybe Southampton flights as part of his writing on travel and tourism. This article may be used by any website publisher, though this resource box must always be included in full.

Increased Flights From Local Airports

By Keith Barrett
When we plan our holidays, many of us tend to be very conscious of the price that we will pay. We look around for better deals, aiming to save money while also looking to have the most enjoyable time possible.

Many people look to shave those costs by reducing the price that they'll pay for accommodation, or maybe looking to eat out less during their holiday. There are also significant savings to be made when it comes to booking flights.

This is something that is coming into focus here in the UK, largely thanks to the rise of the budget airlines. These airlines aim to fly you to your chosen destination with a minimal amount of fuss and at a low price.

Many such airlines don't serve food onboard the flight - they're all looking to cut costs and ensure that prices remain low.

One of the budget operators, Flybe, have been placing a lot of emphasis on using regional airports. We've seen this at our local airport - Southampton.

Most people in the country may not have even been aware that it's possible to fly to and from Southampton. It's not just possible - for many of us it's the most practical way of doing this.

Having an airport within a short drive or train journey is incredibly useful and especially so when the transport links are as good as they are to Southampton Airport. It helps, of course, that flight prices are low.

This combination of flight prices and convenience is seeing increasing numbers looking to travel from the airport. The list of available destinations seems to grow each year, meaning that we can quickly reach many parts of Europe.

How Can I Fly From Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast Australia?

By Annie R
How to fly from Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast is quite a common question for travelers from outside Australia. If you live here or have been here before, you'd know the answer pretty quickly. Here's a bit of a clue using the most popular destination on the coast Surfers Paradise as the reference.

* Distance between Brisbane Airport and Surfers Paradise is about 90kms. Surfers is south of Brisbane.

* Distance between Gold Coast Airport and Surfers Paradise is about 20kms. Surfers is north of GC Airport.

* Distance between Brisbane Airport and Gold Coast Airport is about 110kms.

You can fly between Brisbane and Gold Coast, just not by scheduled commercial flights or airlines. If you want to check, Brisbane airport code is BNE and GC Airport code is OOL for Coolangatta. There are no commercial flights.

However, wherever there is a desire, someone can fulfill it. There are two ways you can fly between Brisbane Airport and GC Airport.

Jet Charter

If you can afford it, you could charter a jet. Not a viable option for most of us.

Helicopter Transfer

Heli transfers can be arranged between airports or between airport and your accommodation or other venue with helipad. Again, not really what most of us do, but certainly possible.

The reality is that there are usually better ways to get between Brisbane and your Gold Coast location than flying.

Airport transfer options include:

Hire a car

Hire a car and drive yourself to your accommodation and then around to the various local attractions. Very convenient and can be cost effective for families and groups planning on doing lots of sightseeing.

Meet and Greet

Be met at the airport terminal by a driver of car, people mover or limousine. They organise your luggage and get you door to door to your destination stress free.

Airport Shuttle Buses and Coaches

Various types of buses and coaches. Some are scheduled, others pick up smaller groups and take door to door to your accommodation. Scheduled services generally take you to a central bus depot.

AirTrain

AirTrain goes from Brisbane Airport to train stations on the Gold Coast of Coomera, Helensvale, Nerang and Robina. You will need to get from the train stations to your accommodation.

Whilst there are options to fly from Brisbane to Gold Coast the reality is most visitors will use another form of Brisbane Airport transfers.

Annie runs, researches and writes for the website http://www.Gold-Coast-Australia-Travel-Tips.com. Gold Coast Australia Travel Tips was established in 2006 to help tourists and locals discover some of the secrets of Queensland's famous Gold Coast.

Find a Good Parking Spot at the Burbank Airport

By Ryan Frank
The Burbank Airport has changed names so many times over the years; people don't know what to call it! It's formal name is currently the 'Bob Hope Airport', as of 2007, but most people just stick with BUR or Burbank airport, --easier to say, and remember. Two movies and one music video have been filmed there, since it was opened, and it serves a huge portion of urban southern California. It's actually closer to Hollywood than LAX, so plenty of actors and film professionals use the airport. Burbank airport also has its own police department, separate from the Burbank city's police, and the airport covers over six hundred acres. At this size, can you imagine how difficult it must be to find a Burbank airport parking place?

It doesn't have to be; getting organized before your flight requires more than just packing, and remembering where you put your tickets. Booking a parking place ahead of time involves little more than an hour's research, a couple phone calls, or just using an online reservation feature. Start by calling the airport, if you plan to use terminal parking for your long- or short-term parking needs, to see what the fees are currently; inflation may have caused the prices to rise since you used the service last. If you plan to use other Burbank airport parking services, read the tips and suggestions below for a better understanding of your options:

1. You can get up to date information on the parking lots at the Bob Hope, or Burbank Airport parking by calling 818-565-1308, and asking for information about rates, reservations, and availability.

2. You can book your parking slot by simply logging on to their official website: bobhopeairport.com

3. Determine whether you need short or long term parking, and if non-terminal parking is more convenient; it's often cheaper, more widely available, and more convenient than fighting the traffic with the airport traffic. If you'd like to compare rates, reviews, and service features of different non-terminal Burbank airport parking services outside of the airport, use sites like AirportParkingConnection.com. There you can get the inside scoop on all the detailed info you need when choosing a service.

4. Don't leave parking reservations to the last minute! The longer you wait, the more stress builds, and the higher the chances are that parking in the terminal will be a major hassle. You might even miss your flight! Book early, be organized, budget, and have a great flight!

For more tips on how to save both time and money the next time you visit Burbank try http://www.airportparkingconnection.com to find the best rates for Burbank airport parking.

Alicante Airport - The Gate of the Mediterranean

By Igor Vragovic
Each year, several millions of travelers come to Spain and Costa Blanca through Alicante Airport. Despite its small size, it is one of the most busy airports in Spain. For many travelers, it is the starting point of their vacation on the Mediterranean. Alicante airport is well connected with many cities of Europe. Around 80% of all the visitors are from UK, Germany, France, Holland and other European countries. In addition, it is indirectly linked with the rest of the world by local flights from Madrid or Barcelona.

The airport is located quite close to Alicante - just about 10 kilometres (6 miles) away from the city center. You can find it between places of Torrellano and Urbanova, close to the city of Elche, following the roads A-79, N-338 and N-332.

The airport halls are spacious, with a lot of light, having large entrance doors. They are organized in three levels. The arrival hall is in the lowest level, with a coffee shop, offices of several travel agencies and a Police station. Around the arrival gate you can also find offices of Alicante car hire agencies. There are 6 of them on the side of the coffee shop: Solmar, Goldcar rental, Europcar, Auriga crown, Record and Avis. Another 4 are situated closer to the exit: Sixt, Hertz, National-Atesa and Centauro.

The check-in area is situated on the middle level (the first floor). It has two parts. In the first hall (above the arrival gate), there are 38 regular check-in posts of terminal T-1 (numbered from 1 to 38) and one post for bulky luggage (number 39). Passing by the last post and walking further through a corridor you enter the hall of terminal T-2. There are additional check-in posts, numbered from 51 to 64. The departure area is situated on the second floor (upper level), with a standard shopping and restaurant zone.

Close to the stairs and the elevator, connecting all three levels, you can find the Information desk, as well as offices of several airline companies: Iberia, Flybe, Monarch, Air Europa, Spanair, Jet2, Air Algerie and Airberlin. You can also have a snack in a self-service coffee bar La Marina. The offices of other agencies (such as Alicante air service, Thomas Cook, Air Finland, ServisAir, Thomson Tui, Travelplan, Aga airlines, Easy Jet and Menzines Aviation) are situated near the corridor connecting halls of two terminals.

In front of the airport building, you can find a large car park. Currently, new additions are also under construction. Once the new Terminal 2 is finished, the airport will provide a large parking area for more than 6000 vehicles. The new terminal, which should be finished during 2009/2010, is added as a solution to an increasing number of flights. Some of the airlines (such as Ryanair and EasyJet) are already operating from the new terminal.

The staff of the airport is highly professional, friendly and always ready to help. Most of them do speak English. The airport is organized well - I personally never had any bad experience. My luggage always arrived; it was never lost nor damaged. However, if it happens that your luggage is missing, just follow the standard procedure. Fill in the form and let the airport staff help you. In the worst case, you will get a survival package for your basic daily needs. In the most cases, the lost luggage is found within 24 hours.

When planing your flights to Alicante, check them on time and book them early. Visit the websites of travel agencies in order to find possible bargains. One of them is AENA - Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea . It offers the complete information about scheduled flights from and to Alicante, available in both Spanish and English languages.

Choosing Between Different Types of Airport Parking

By Matt Potter
When you're booking your holidays, often one of the last things to be thought of is how you're going to get to the airport. Do you take a bus, train or taxi? Often the most convenient method is to drive to the airport and park your car there while you are away. But where do you park? Is it a safe car park? And what kind of car park do you book?

There are three main types of airport car parking: Onsite parking, offsite parking and meet and greet / valet parking. Onsite parking is fairly self explanatory. You park within the airport grounds, and either walk or take a short shuttle bus to your terminal. This is very convenient, as you are very close to the airport, and know exactly where you car is going to be left for however long you are away.

Offsite parking involves parking your car at a car park usually a few miles away from the airport, and taking a transfer bus to the terminal. This is often cheaper than onsite parking, but of course incurs more hassle when it comes to getting to and returning from the airport, and in some cases you have to leave your car keys behind for your car to be parked by a car park attendant. Not all travellers are comfortable with this scenario.

Meet and Greet / Valet parking has become popular in recent years, and is an extremely convenient way to park your car at an airport. Basically, you call the company shortly before you arrive at the airport, and are met by a chauffeur who will then take your car away. When you return from your travels, you give them a call, and they meet you in the arrivals lounge ready to give your keys back. Incredibly convenient and a great way to get your holiday off to a relaxed start, but expect to pay a tidy premium for the service.

If you book your airport car parking early, you can expect to make good savings - sometimes up to 60% - so it makes sense to plan these things well in advance of your travel date.

Remember also, when travelling It can often be cheaper to travel from a smaller UK airports compared to the larger ones, even if it is a little further away. Parking and often the flight itself can be cheaper, making your holiday even more cost effective.

Dublin Airport Guide

By Carl D Wilson
Dublin Airport has grown rapidly over the years due to a huge surge in tourism in Ireland. It is easily the largest and busiest airport in Ireland and is now the 10th busiest airport in Europe. On average over sixty thousand passengers use the airport every day. During the peak summer months this number can rise by another twenty thousand. Every day up to six hundred plus airplanes use the airport.

The airport has been transformed over the years with a large investment program set to change the airport beyond recognition. The Dublin Airport Authority has promised an investment of two billion euro over the entire program.

Visitors to the airport have sometimes been left disgruntled by the service they have received and the facilities at the airport. The plan was undertaken to take care of these issues and offer a better overall experience for passengers as well as presenting a better face for Ireland when making first impressions.

The plan will take ten years to complete however improvements can already be seen in certain areas of the airport. In May 2007 Area 14 on the lower ground floor was opened while a new boarding area (Pier D) was opened in October 2008.

Construction continues at Terminal 2 which is considered to be the defining piece of the overall plan. Work began on terminal 2 in October 2007. Its finish date is expected to be in April 2010.

Once all work is completed Dublin Airport will be capable of handling thirty five million passengers annually.

There is a twenty four hour parking service at Dublin Airport with over fourteen thousand long term parking spaces and three and a half thousand short term spaces. There are machines where customers can swipe their tickets and pay automatically. These can be found in the arrivals hall and the entrance to the car park. The car park is another area of the airport which has been improved considerably over the years.

There are five major Dublin Airport car hire companies. These are Avis, National, Irish Car Rental, Budget and Hertz. Car hire can be booked in advance which is recommended to avoid the lengthy lines that often develop at the collection points.

There is a taxi rank directly outside the arrivals area. On average you can expect to pay between twenty five and thirty euro to get from the airport into the city centre. Peak times can often be more expensive. Airport buses are also available into the city which cost between six and seven euro for single tickets. The cheapest option is the Dublin City Bus which costs two euro however this is certainly the slowest way of getting into the city. There is no train service from the airport.

If you are planning on a visit to Ireland then Dublin will most likely be your entry point. Plan as much in advance as possible to save yourself delays and hassles at the airport. If you are coming off a long flight then the last thing you will want to do is get stuck in long lines waiting when all you want to do is get to your hotel and relax.

Parking at Birmingham Airport - Birmingham Airport Car Park Facilities

By Mark Felix
Birmingham airport car park facilities provide a competitive range of options at prices which don't restrict which you choose. With two major terminals helping 40 separate airlines operate, and serving 9 million passengers a year, this is an airport which has seen a great deal of development in recent years, and is continuing to expand. The parking facilities reflect this expansion, and whilst still very competitive are very much as you would expect from a major airport of this size.

There are five separate parking options from which you can choose at Birmingham airport, and these include short stay parking, medium stay or multi-story parking, long stay parking, valet services and hotel parking. Which option you choose is based on a combination of convenience and cost.

The short stay parking is ideal if you're only staying at the airport for up to 2 hours. Prices for the short stay car park at Birmingham airport start at just £1.20 for the first half hour, which is significantly cheaper than many of the major airports.

For longer stays you have a number of choices, and the multi-story medium stay car parks might be worth considering. These start at £2.60 per hour and although they offer the convenience of allowing you to simply turn up and park, they can prove to be expensive for extended stays. If you're staying longer than a day or two you would be better off choosing the long stay car parks, valet car parks or even the hotel options.

You are also going to be considerably better off if you have the ability to book in advance. Pre-booking 90 days in advance can result in long stay rates of just £2.99 per day! This is far cheaper than most other airports, and is well worth considering if you have the ability to plan three months in advance. As far as Birmingham airport car park facilities go, it's certainly the cheapest option.

There are six different long stay car parks run by a number of operators. Although these are further away, they represent the cheapest possible rates. A free bus service is provided from each of the long stay car parks, and this runs approximately every 12 minutes, and runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The closest off-airport long stay car park is Birmingham Airparks Service and is 4.5 miles from the terminal.

The Birmingham Airport Long Stay car park 1 is on site, and a free bus service runs every 5 minutes. Disabled places are available, but you will need to book in advance in order to guarantee that you will be able to reserve one of these. Another long stay option is the Birmingham APH which is off site and approximately 15 minutes' bus journey away. This car park holds the AA/Police Gold Award for security and includes high security fencing, CCTV monitored 24 hours a day and guards on duty 24 hours a day.

Prices for most of the long stay car parks are about 60% cheaper if you can book in advance, and the rate of £2.99 per day is the best long stay rate available. This is only available however if you book 90 days in advance and for a period of at least one week.

Although these car parks offer very discounted and highly competitive rates, there are further options to consider because sometimes it isn't just about the price. When you arrive at an airport sometimes for a little extra the convenience of not having to worry about parking your car, or of finding it again at the end of your trip, is worth a great deal.

If you have a lot of heavy or awkward luggage, or you have elderly or disabled passengers, or perhaps a number of children, you don't want the hassle of parking miles from the airport, catching a bus and then finding your way through to the terminal. Just getting your passengers and luggage from the car to the bus stop, on and off the bus and then through to the terminal can start to make your vacation seem more like hard work. If this is the case you would do well to consider the valet service available as one of the more convenient Birmingham airport car park facilities.

Imagine driving right up to the terminal, meeting your chauffeur who will then help you unload your passengers and luggage, and drive your car away for you, parking it in a secure compound while you are away. On your return your chauffeur will bring your car to you, right up to the terminal, minimizing any worry or hassle about parking, finding your car or getting to or from the terminal. Although slightly more expensive, this does represent the easiest possible option, and as far as Birmingham airport car park facilities go, it can't be beaten when it comes to peace of mind and enjoying your trip.

More information is available on services and parking at Birmingham airport at Airport Essentials where you will also find parking and other information on other UK airports.

The Buzz of Air Travel - From Departure Lounges to Airport Transfers

By Shaun Parker
If you let them, airports can give you an electric feeling that few other major buildings can. The airport is constantly on the move, serving a conveyor belt of holidaymakers, business people and those simply moving from A to B. Airport transfers mark the beginning of your flirtation with air travel, delivering you to the busy entrance, garnished with taxis, space wagons and cars - each spilling forth families, suited men and excited weekend breakers.

The structure of airport terminals may not change significantly, but the lifeblood is moving all the time. The airport is the skin and bones, and the passengers are the pumping blood - ceaselessly arriving, waiting, buying, eating, drinking. Airport transfers, luggage porters, baggage handlers, security details - all these contribute to the buzz of the airport.

A school or a hospital or a hotel - they have a liveliness about them, but nothing like that of an airport. Transfers between different terminals, each serving different continents - heading to Rio or LA or Toronto, to London, Glasgow or Edinburgh. All take the form of mini trains or people carrying conveyor belts - internal airport transfers have never been so slick.

Coffee fuelled, twitchy businessmen clutching bottles of perfume for their neglected wives, heavily laden Canadian backpackers eating the previous night's leftovers, nouveau riche pensioners treating themselves to the Spanish south - the whole patchwork of the human travelling quilt is sewn into the constantly shifting fabric of the airport. Transfers hurry along wide corridors of Singapore terminal 1, on their way to Bangkok to the north, or Jakarta to the south. Late arrivals in Amsterdam hurtle towards the soon-to-close flight to New York. The thrill of people going to places continues 24 hour a day.

Never resting, the airport is impossible to pin down. Its temporary residents finally settling in to their aluminium tubes, handed their glossy in-flight magazines before failing to heed the safety demonstration for the Nth time. Sated by shopping and expensive airport food, they sit waiting for take off, surging up into the blue or the grey or the black - waiting for the experience at the other end.

The red wine from flight 209 and black coffee from flight 803, the compact lasagne from Milan 222, the mini spring rolls from the Shanghai 406. The rich experience of air travel will take many hours to leave the traveller's system - and many more to adjust to the time difference. Jet lag is the come down from this heady world of plastic mini cutlery and little yoghurt pots - endless red wine refills and tiny bottles of whisky.

And what at the other end? More airport transfers to other destinations - or perhaps simply airport transfers to familiar homes and familiar beds. But first the process of exiting - held up by passport checks and luggage which fails to appear on the conveyor belt. But, bag or suitcase retrieved, its time to exchange final Euros or Dollars or Pounds, time to find your way through the throng to the exit, out into the cold chill of the stationary taxi rank. At last the earth is still - until the next time.

Car Parking Facilities at Heathrow

By Mark Felix
Car parking facilities at Heathrow airport are, as you might expect, some of the best resourced anywhere, with a great deal of choice on offer. With nearly 70 million passengers a year, half a million aircraft serving 180 destinations and organised over separate terminals, Heathrow is a giant amongst airports. The recent opening of Terminal 5 has only resulted in one of the world's busiest airports becoming an even more dynamic machine. As a result, car parking is not only an absolute necessity, but with space increasingly a premium it can be expensive unless you plan in advance.

Advance Booking

As with most airports, parking at Heathrow is much less expensive when booked in advance. Typically, advanced booking for car parking at Heathrow will net you savings of up to 70%, although it might be possible to lower the cost of advance booked further by considering one of the several hotels at Heathrow which provide free parking. Typical advance rates for booking your car into a car park for 7 days costs from £60, and a 14-day car park fee will be around £100.

However, if you shop around and book in advance you can often find that you can book a night's stay at one of the airport hotels for about £50, and this comes with 7, 14 and even up to 21 days' free parking. Imagine being able to arrive the day before your flight, enjoy a night's rest knowing you're already at the airport, and having your car parked for free for up to 21 days, all for £50. This will require you to shop around, book in advance and be able to either arrive one day early, or stay one day later at the end of your holiday, but if you can arrange this, it may well be the cheapest option.

Short Stay Parking

Short stay parking is available for all terminals, including the new Terminal 5, and costs from £2.40 for up to 30 minutes to £7.70 for up to 2 hours. Beyond this, it can become very expensive to remain in the short stay car park, with costs of £45.20 for periods up to 24 hours and for each 24-hour period after that.

Long Stay Parking

The long stay car parking facilities at Heathrow are available all year round at a price of £15.70 per day for any period up to five days. For stays over five days, the rate is £15.10 per day. There is a free coach transfer service from these car parks to the terminals, with services to Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5 running every 10 minutes, and every 12 minutes for Terminal 4. These long stay car parks include frequent patrols as well as high security fencing and 24 hour monitored CCTV.

Other Heathrow Parking Options

There are two possible alternatives to these options available, and this includes the business parking facilities and the valet service. The business car parking service at Heathrow provides long stay parking facilities with a transfer service which is on demand, and with a running time of just 3 minutes compared to the 10-15 minute service which normally runs from the long stay car parks. If you're in a hurry, then this could be a fast option.

The meet and greet or valet options are perhaps the most luxurious and easiest way of arriving, with minimum fuss and hassle and absolutely no need to try to remember where you left your car. The valet service is available for those requiring Terminals 1, 4 or 5 and can, if you wish, include a car cleaning service while you're away.

Imagine arriving at the airport and meeting your valet service representative at the designated place right outside the terminal, and then handing over your keys as you stroll into the terminal just a few feet away. The valet service will then drive your car away for you, parking it in a highly secure parking facility, leaving you nothing more to worry about than making sure you have your passport and that you get on the right plane.

At the end of the trip, you give the valet service a quick call and they will drive your car right up to the terminal to meet you, and hand the keys back over. Should you wish they can even assist you in and out with your luggage. If you dislike the hassle of parking and worrying about leaving your car or finding it again, or have a lot of luggage, elderly or disabled passengers, children or awkward items such as skis, then this can prove to be a real advantage.

For valet parking, a single day costs £12.50, 7 days costs £46.25 and 14 days costs £71.25. As far as car parking facilities at Heathrow are concerned, and especially considering the fact that space is now such a premium, these prices really do represent excellent value for money, and are certain to take a weight off your mind - which is what many of the 67.3 million passengers each year are looking to achieve!

When it comes time to travel at the airport nowadays, it's important that you look into purchasing some carry on luggage. It's not only going to save you money at the check in gate, you're going to be able to know where your clothes and belongings are at all points. Sure, you're restricted to how much you can bring, but if you're only going to be gone 3-4 days, I highly recommend you look into bringing carry on luggage onto the plane.

With so many airlines charging a checked in luggage fee of $15 both ways, that can get pretty expensive. I look at this way in that I can travel three times and that's enough for me to purchase a carry on luggage set already. The only time I will check in my luggage is if I'm going to be gone for more than five days or so. As I already mentioned, carry on luggage is only going to allow you stuff so much into it. I've found that I was only able to place about three to four days worth of clothes.

When it comes to luggage, you have to keep in mind that airlines have a restriction with these bags. They can only be so big and if they are over the requirements, you'll be asked to check it in. Usually at the airport, they will have a designed box that you can place your bag into. If the bag doesn't fit into it, you won't be able to bring it on. This is why it's important to buy one that's regulated. As long as you get a regulated bag, you won't have any troubles in terms of buying a bag and having it denied at the gate.***
