If you've given private jets consideration as your new means of travel, but have yet to actually make the commitment, your hesitation might be founded on solid grounds. Private aircraft are easily the utmost in convenience and luxury, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they might also be an unnecessary expense and even unsafe.Private Jet Safety
There is a very real concern over safety in any aircraft. If safety is your concern regarding owning or even just flying on a private aircraft, you should review the business jet manufacturer, the model of the plane you'll be flying on, and the safety and flight qualifications of the pilots and flight companies.
FAA Regulation 135 orders plane manufacturers and owners to maintain certain standards with their planes to keep them up-to-date and safe for flight. If you are arranging a flight on a private jet, drill the company about their information and ask how they are complying and exceeding the guidelines. If you own your own private plane, you'll need to ensure you jet is inspected and tested regularly by competent and knowledgeable inspectors in order to meet these stringent guidelines.
If you have any concerns about the safety of a private jet or its pilot, never ignore your instinct. Get the information you need to feel comfortable before flying, or simply arrange a different flight in a situation where you feel you're in good hands.
Outrageous Expense
Private aircraft are not cheap. The cost of the plane alone is not the only check you'll be writing when you acquire a private jet. You'll also be responsible for the cost of insuring the bizjet, the salaries of your flight crew, the cost of maintaining the plane and the cost of storing it in a local hangar.
All of this adds up quickly, and if you're not actually in the sky flying every week at some point, your money isn't being spent in a wise way necessarily. The expense of the private jet is outweighing its usefulness. Owning a private jet might be a dream of yours, but if you're leery of taking on the huge cost in exchange for a bit of luxury, it can be hard to write that first check.
It might be easier, however, if you investigate other options when it comes to private planes. Outright ownership is only one of many alternatives available if you want the utmost in luxury and comfort. You may be wealthy, but you don't stay rich by spending your money unwisely. If you're not in need of a jet full-time, you can always enter a fractional ownership program.
Private Jet fractional ownership programs give you a chance to earn tax benefits and entitle you to your jet when you want it, but as you only own a portion of it, others can use it (and share the costs) when you don't need it. Business jet membership programs work almost the same way.
