It's become increasingly noticeable that more and more people are avoiding using London airports in favour of smaller regional alternatives. It's certainly an interesting trend and one that deserves more investigation. Why are so many people looking to travel from other locations. As ever, it seems that this is story that is coming about due to a range of factors.
Firstly, many people feel that getting to the London airports is not as convenient as it could be. This is particularly true, fairly obviously, for those who live the greatest distances from the capital. While rail links are reasonable, the thought of driving anywhere near the city is certainly not pleasurable.
There are also increased costs involved in travelling from Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick. These costs show themselves in various ways, ranging from more expensive flights to higher prices for taxi fares and overnight accommodation.
All of these factors have been added to by the fact that a number of budget airlines have started to operate from regional airports. This is creating an interesting effect - it means that many people are now finding that it's cheaper to fly from a local airport, which may also be more convenient.
The trend has continued, with the range of destinations on offer constantly increasing. There are drawbacks, of course. Some regional airports don't have the same facilities that you might expect to find in London.
But many people are finding that they can easily deal with a few less shops, especially when they're saving money on the cost of their holiday.
It seems that many travellers will continue to avoid the major London airports.
